Arrow of Light

Kaden is now an 11 year old scout.  No more cub scouts for Kaden.  He worked really hard to get his Arrow of Light which is the award they get when they have completed all their requirements to move on to 11 year old scouts.  He did a lot of things to get this award and we couldn't be prouder.  He got to bring the flag in for the flag ceremony on his special night and I did get a little teary when we were all saying the pledge.

Kaden was lucky enough to have some great scout leaders  - including my cousin Craig.  Scout leaders are one in a million and we have the best!

The boys get to light each of the arrows of light while saying the scout motto.   Brother Olsen helped him - another amazing scout leader.

Kaden and Nicolas moved up at the same time.  There are about 10 more boys 

turning 11 this year.  It is going to be a fun and crazy year for the 11 year old scouts!

This ceremony is very symbolic.  The parents stand on one side because we have been a big part of helping Kaden get his awards up until this point.  Then we stand there and watch him cross over the bridge to the other side.  It represents Kaden taking ownership of his scouting career that he will be the responsible one and we will be the supporters instead of the instigators.  Forgive me as I wax nostalgic but I couldn't help seeing how quickly the time will go when Kaden will cross the bridge of life and we will be on one side hoping that we have taught him what he needs to know.  The best part of this scenario is on the other side of the physical bridge were his new scout leaders who will guide and direct him.  I only hope he will have great mentors and examples when he goes off into the world.  For now I will cherish my little boy who will soon be bigger than me but will always fit perfectly inot my heart.
