Tanner's last field trip in First Grade was to the Scripps Birch Aquarium in La Jolla. Even thought I grew up here I have never been here before and now that I've been I can't believe we hadn't ever gone before. It was really amazing and a field trip that I really enjoyed. I was really amazed at how Tanner and his classmates knew every fish. Their teacher did an amazing job in preparing them and teaching them about the creatures in the ocean. I was also very surprised at all of the amazing fish. I had no idea that some were so funky, some beautiful and some creepy. I mean I've seen Finding Nemo so I thought I was somewhat of an expert on the creatures in the ocean considering all the times I have seen Finding Nemo. My world outside of Nemo has officially been opened. I now want to scuba dive while at the same time I would be terrified if I ran into some of the things I saw behind glass. It was a fun day and a great learning experience. I guess that is what field trips are about. Tanner taught me all kinds of things and showed me you can find a fish beautiful and fascinating even if it is also a little strange.
This eel creeped me out but of course Tanner loved it. Ever since Princess Bride all I can think about when I hear about eels is the "shrieking eels" and I get nervous.
This was the kids favorite part. They got to create their own currents. They could have spent hours here.
The boys loved the octopus. Don't you just love the gangster pose? Seriously, where does he get that. It's not like Trav and I go around acting like gangsters all the time.
This looked just like sea weed. I think the most profound lesson I learned was that Heavenly Father put such amazing detail into each and every creature. More than I ever imagined.
