PINEWOOD DERBY

This was Kaden's last Pinewood Derby and he is our big dreamer.  He had a grand plan in his mind that his car was going to be the sleekest and fastest car in the history of all Pinewood Derby's.  As I say that I imagine that is every boy scouts dream.  Last year his car won the best looking award.  This year he wanted to do it bigger and better.  It just so happened that Travis was out of town for both Derby workshops.  We had to make a special visit to get the car done.  Since they only had one workshop to do it they needed to do it fast.  Trav took Kaden and they painted, sanded and got it all done except the weights.  They needed the paint and the glue to dry before they put the special weights on.  Travis wanted to go above and beyond with the glue and decided to super glue the wheels to the bar.  I don't think he realized how strong and "super" the glue is.  He glued it and then had to run to a meeting.  After the glue dried (30 seconds) we realized that the wheels were glued tight to the car.  They didn't rotate at all.  I might be a little confused but I really thought the wheels were meant to turn to go down the track.  Kaden was in a panic and admittedly so was I.  He was supposed to go in 45 minutes to weigh the car and practice on the track.  I was going to run and buy a new car, paint it etc and hope it would work.  Then I finally decided to be superwoman and rip the wheels off.  I ripped them off and part of the car came with it but we were able to somewhat paint over it.  Then I called Kaden's amazing leader and he had an extra pair of wheels.  He helped Kaden finish the car and get the weights on.  Kaden was kind of bummed that the weights went on the top because they wouldn't fit on the bottom after I ripped part of the bottom off.  It took part of the flash off of the car but the car still went pretty fast!  All in all I think Kaden won a few and lost a few but it was a great night and definitely the most memorable Pinewood Derby we've had yet!

I tried to tell him that the weights gave the car bling....
