MOLLY & SPARKY SITTING IN A TREE.....

We have had Molly now for 3 months. The Romney's have been talking about getting one when Nate was one and Travis and I always said we would never get one. It came as a big surprise to all (including myself) when we got a puppy first. That sped up the Romney's getting one because of course the kids wanted to have 2 dogs to play with. Very soon after we got Molly, they got Sparky. Molly is a Yorkie and Sparky is a Malty-Poo (is that how you say it and spell it?). Molly is a girl and Sparky is a boy. When we first got them together, Sparky was still a baby and Molly seemed like a mean big dog around Sparky. I worried that we would never get them to play. Then Nick and Chloe brought Sparky up when he had gotten bigger and we watched the puppies circle each other each vying to be the "alpha dog". Although Molly is older and a little bigger Sparky won out pretty quickly. I guess it is true in boy dogs and boys - they like to prove how strong they are. :) Nick was pretty excited that Sparky was the stronger of the two. Then my boys made signs to cheer Molly on in the hopes that our dog was actually the stronger of the two. After the coveted "alpha dog" was established Molly and Sparky have been inseparable. They even have play dates. Sparky will come and play with Molly and vice-versa. They can entertain each other and us for hours playing in the backyard. The kids have decided that they are going to get married which means we should get our dog's fixed pretty soon!

Be careful, while these dogs seem and look young, it is amazing how fast they are mature enough to breed. We had a female collie puppy, not even 1 year old that we left with our friends for a day who also had an older male collie. Guess what, at her next vet visit, they informed us that she was pregnant. She was too young to be pregnant and had two pups prematurely and was supposed to have at least 9 more. Don't know what happened, but they never came. Weird. Just remember your two dogs are MALE and FEMALE and they can breed really young.
