We really pulled out all the stops for this birthday - we normally seem to spread family birthdays into a week long ordeal but we managed to pack Callen's birthday all into one day. It may be that I am trying to get everything done each day just in case the baby decides to make his grand entrance so I am prepared. Not that any entrances have been made as of late but one can always hope! This day was packed full of family fun, food and funny faces. Callen got his special monkey cakes - how perfect is that considering his slight obsession with Mr. Monkey. Yes, he still has no name but then again I had a cat named Kitty so the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He was pretty excited about the monkeys and since it was his birthday I didn't stop him when he tried to eat 3 cupcakes, or 4 or even 5. I mean really, how often do you turn 3 and it's not like anything will stunt this kids growth. He loved being the center of attention and having tons of family and friends around.

Maybe when he can articulate better we will ask him where he comes up with these random faces. I swear we haven't been watching Jim Carrey movies - Callen must just be a natural of facial contortions. Nate has a funny laugh and Callen does his funny face. They spent the night trying to out-do each other. Nate would laugh and Callen would pose. Nate would laugh and Callen would....well you get the idea.
You may wonder why there are 3 monkey cakes but if you are a member of Callen's immediate inner circle you know that he never travels far without one of his 3 monkeys. I had to keep the tradition alive plus add in some monkey cupcakes for good measure.

For the top secret Monkey recipe go here. I did feel a little like Martha's second cousins aunts sisters twice removed sister in laws baker as I baked these cakes. That is as close to Martha Stewart as I will ever get.
A penny for his thoughts.....

| Finger licking good! If only it were that easy to clean a little boy after 5 cupcakes. We practically needed a fire hose |
