Summer Birthdays.....

I have a July birthday and I really didn't like it.  Actually I hated it.  I always asked my Mom why she had to have me in the summer.  I never got to celebrate birthdays with homemade cupcakes during the school year, I was the last to get my ears pierced (at the ripe old age of 11), last one to the stake dances, last one to date and drive etc, etc, etc.  My senior year in high school while everyone was signing themselves out I was sitting through all my classes counting the days until I turned 18.  After such a hard life of having late birthdays I swore that I would plan all of my children well and only have winter and spring babies.  You know what happens when real life happens......“The best laid plans of mice and men go awry”.  After planning so well I will end up with 1 August birthday and 2 September birthdays.  After very careful planning and strategery I realized that no matter the day or the season my kids birthdays will still be special.  Now I love my summer birthday and all that goes along with it.   I also get to share the special distinction of having a summer birthday with 3 of my kids.  Summers Rock!  Plus school's have gotten a lot smarter since I was there and they let every summer birthday child have a special day during the school year where they get to bring in the special treats and even wear the special birthday hat.  Today was Lexie's special day.  She requested donuts and I tried really hard not to sneak one.  I made it to the school with just the right number.  Lexie had her special hat, her donuts and her special day.  She told me after school that she was officially 6.  Then pulled me down to her level to whisper - I am just a pretend 6 until my real birthday but don't tell anyone.  If only I could keep my kids each age for longer than a year.....then I could officially have them with me for a few years longer.

Caitlyn's not a super fan of her July 19 birthday either. I keeping telling her it's more special because we get to celebrate all day long instead of having her in school most of the day, but she's not buying what I'm selling!

Happy Pretend Birthday Lexie! You are such a pretend lady! (hum, that didn't come out right did it)
Rachel, you think summer birthdays were bad growing up, try Christmas Eve! Plus having to share it with your brother! Like you though I looked for the silver lining in my adult years and realized that a Christmas Eve birthday means my adult children come home to celebrate with me. So just think of all the great "vacation" birthdays you can have.
