We are studying mammals this month for science. We had this great field trip set up where we were going to the actual tide pools in La Jolla to see the animals there. The tides are only high enough certain times of the year to make this possible and we had been waiting months for the time to be right. The day of our field trip it was freezing and raining. We were all out there in coats and hoods shivering. Then it started to pour. I don't need to say that being at the beach in windy, rainy and freezing weather is NOT a fun thing to do.We quickly re-routed our field trip to Birch Aquarium where it was warm and dry. We were kind of sad not to be able to see the animals in their natural habitat but when we got to the aquarium we got to see all the tide pools animals inside where it was warm and dry.

Tanner really liked the eels. Every time I see or hear of an eel all I can think about is the line from Princess Bride where they talk about the "shrieking eels". Luckily these are well enclosed in a glass tank and I saw no signs of an evil Sicilian anywhere around.
Lexie's favorite part outside of petting the starfish was this huge fish tank.
The kids had a blast touching all of the sea creatures. Some were slimy, some
It was fun to see what the starfish looked like underneath. It is so amazing to see how
different each creature is. Another example of what a miracle the earth's creation was.
It was a windy freezing day but we still had a great time and learned a lot.
