Every summer Children's Chorus goes and performs at the San Diego Fair. This summer it was especially fun because it is the only time Taylor and Alexis will be at the fair singing together. It was fun to see them in their matching outfits singing their hearts out on stage. The girls did a great job and one of the groups even lost all back-up sound during their performance and kept on going. It was pretty impressive since most of the group were 8 year olds. Taylor and Natalie had solos and sounded fabulous. I actually think they had the most fun hamming it up on stage after it was all over.
The girls -it is their last year :( Kind-of sad
Lexie did so great and waved that flag so well...
I love the fair, we saw camels, turkey's race, fried avocados, fried coke (pretty much fried everything), interesting people and more ways to drop money than anywhere I have ever been.
Our favorite place ended up being the Kids Tent where kids get to display unique collections and art work. There was also a place for mom's to sit (hallelujah) and the kids to play with toys.
We could have spent hours here...
Tanner, Lexie and Callen were the only ones that came into the petting zoo with us. The older kids thought it would be "boring". We proved that it was a ton of fun and they just sat outside the petting zoo looking in on us having fun feeding the animals.
We saw the biggest cows I had ever seen. They were EnOrMoUs!~

They had this little shopping section sponsored by Ralph's. We waited in line for 15 minutes so Lexie could push her little cart around. When we got up close they informed us that only kids 5-12 could do it. They then offered her a coloring page as she watched all the other kids go into the mock grocery store. Lexie burst into tears. I patiently explained to the lady that she was turning 5 in a month and could she just come in. That lady was not budging. I seriously have never met such a mean grandma. So I marched a crying Lexie to the end of the the exhibit and put her in front of the lady in charge and asked oh so sweetly if my almost 5 year old devastated daughter could please push a cart around and collect fake groceries. I knew she wanted to say no but made a "special" exception "just this once" all the while telling me that it was completely against the rules and that she shouldn't be doing this. I smiled sweetly thinking that whoever set up the event must not have children because who really thinks that 12 year olds would be interested in pushing a mini grocery cart. I watched many kids 5 and under being turned away crying. They should have catered it to the little kids that would actually jump at the chance to push the little cart. Note to the Ralph's Grocery Store chain - you might want to re-think the booth at the fair and include those 3 and up with a parent to chaperone. Just a thought.

Callen was fascinated by the goats that kept trying to eat his hands
One goat in particular kept jumping up and putting his hooves on the bars to get a better reach. The saddest part is we didn't buy any goat food, the kids were just creative and found extra food on the ground and still got the whole experience. I told them that we were going cheap at the fair and spending hardly any money. That went over VERY well but we improvised. We bought kids meals for lunch, got in free, got free parking and $1 snow cones. The whole day cost us $30 and we were quite proud. The rides and the booths are SO over-rated. At least that is what I kept telling the kids as they looked at them longingly. I explained that it is so much more fun to see how little we can spend at the fair like a game! They weren't thrilled but at the end of the day we ended up seeing most of the fair and only spending $30 dollars.
One of the high-lights was the pig racing. We had no idea it would be "piglet" racing!

I love the fair. It's the thing I miss most! Looks like you guys had a ton of fun
Rachel, you simply have to be the" funnist "mom ever!
I especially enjoyed the pictures of the girls in their children's choir outfits. It brings back such fond memories of when Tonya, Jess and Kristin were in it. It just doesn't seem like that long ago.
Have a great summer Tollestrups .Love Karen
