Every year our ward has a talent show with all the Primary kids. It is my favorite primary activity. The kids love it and it is so fun to see all of the kids talents and even better to see them tell jokes, do impromptu dances and even slide shows. Even though I knew the date and helped plan the talent show I kind-of forgot about helping my boys find a talent to do. Kaden had to be coerced into playing the piano but in the end he was so pumped to play the piano in a real police uniform. On Thursday night, the night before the talent show I got onto google and looked up ideas for kids talent show. I found a few cheesy boy scout skits involving all sorts of bodily noises and beans. Something I am sure the boys would appreciate but not something I thought we should do on stage in the church. I also needed to find something that Tanner and Kaden could do together. I finally came across YMCA and it made perfect sense. I have a disclaimer, I had NO idea that they were a fairly controversial and gross band when I chose this song for the boys. To me it is just the fun song that they play at any and all family dances. The boys were totally pumped to do it. We recruited a cousin and a couple of neighbors and had 1 30 minute practice and we were on our way. They were more excited about the costumes than anything else. A police officer in our ward was nice enough to lend us a real police uniform, helmet, boots, glasses, badge and all. Kaden was VERY exited about that. We did a very simple choreography that I thought the boys would be able to follow. We burned the CD, got the costumes and we were ready. You can see in the clip below they weren't always on the beat and sometimes forgot the steps but in my humble opinion it is the BEST rendition of YMCA I have ever seen! Lexie got to be in the princess parade and twirl her way around the stage with her make-up and curls. It was perfect for Lexie.
