On Thursday I got a call at around 1:30 from the nurse's office at Taylor's school. They told me that I needed to get over there right away that Taylor had fell and possibly been concussed. I panicked and jumped into the car to run up to the school. When I got up there the first thing I saw was the wheelchair. That in itself freaked me out. Then I saw her laying on the bed with the nurse and the PE teacher hovering around her with ice packs. Apparently what happened is the 6th graders were going on a mile run and 2 6th grade classes merged at the same time. Taylor saw a couple of friends up ahead and picked up her speed and was accidentally tripped and then trampled by a group of 6th graders. The scary part is when the PE teacher finally got to her she couldn't remember being tripped or how she ended up laying on the ground which means she blacked out. It was funny how helpful the principal, nurse and PE teacher were when I got there. I could tell they were nervous about Taylor and the liability. They told me I needed to take her to urgent care to get a head scan and to check out her leg and elbow which she couldn't move. We raced to urgent care, I parked in the red, put her in a wheelchair and wheeled her in. Then I left her with the nurse and ran out to my car which I hoped was still there. Breathe - it was, the sweet ladies at the front said they watched it for me. Taylor was poked, prodded, x-rayed and diagnosed and luckily the worst she got out of it was a minimal loss of memory and a giant shiner. I thought she would be super self-conscious of it at school but she wore that black eye like it was the new pink. Go Taylor! Just to re-iterate in case anyone doesn't' know, there really isn't EVER a dull moment in our home.
Thank goodness for the ipod touch that she saved her own money for. It was a lifesaver in urgent care to pass the time.
This is the shiner after a week......
