LEAVING CALLEN

We had to make a big decision this year for our family vacation.  We had to decide if we were going to bring Callen or leave him home.  We didn't have to buy his plane ticket since he is under 2 so it was a decision I kept going back and forth on.  We had never left him before and it wouldn't be a family vacation without him there.  On the other hand, a red-eye flight, 3 layovers and the situation in Mexico didn't seem like a great environment for an 19 month old.  Then Trav gave me the ultimate guilt trip asking me what would happen if something happened to all of us and Callen was left all alone in the world.  Pretty major guilt trip and I changed my mind again and decided to bring him.  Then his passport didn't come in time and the decision was made for me.  Then I wrote a neurotic 4 page email describing Callen's every habit for Ivory and Laurie who were taking turns watching him for me.  I hope I didn't scare them off with my over the top e-mail but I think they both know me well enough to not be surprised by my e-mail.  I owe them BIG time for helping me out - I always felt that he was in the best hands possible.  There were multiple times that we missed Callen but there were also multiple times where we were so grateful he wasn't there because he wouldn't be having any fun and neither would we.  We hung out at a cabana by the pool next to a family with an 18 month old and the poor mom didn't sit down the whole day.  Luckily I was able to sit, read and relax on this vacation.  As much as we missed Callen, he had fun playing with new toys and old friends and we had fun having a very relaxing vacation.

Callen probably wondered why everyone was hugging him so much..

I couldn't let go of him. I kept hugging and kissing him and he was pushing me away like I was crazy.

He couldn't wait for us to leave so he could play with the new toys

I just knew that Callen's future wife Abbey would take good care of him....
