My attempt at a basketball birthday cake
Well, another birthday has come around. For some reason when my kids age it makes me feel older and sadder than when I age. I know if I think deeper about that comment I will notice that I get older as my kids do but that is not what this blog post is about. The night before each of my kids birthdays as I smother them with kisses as if I am committing their younger self to my memory I ask them quite nicely to not grow up and stop growing. It is so cute as they quite seriously tell me that they don't know how. I think they would if they could just to please me. It is a moment I want to capture and put it in a jar so I can look at it when they become teenagers and won't do anything I want them to do just because I want them to do it. I think since my kids seem to get taller with each passing day I realize that their childhoods are slipping through my fingers. Which is the reason I keep trying to post things on my blog to capture every tiny moment, mundane and exciting; they are both precious in the life of a mother.
Another birthday for my ever growing boy. Kaden is a sweet, sensitive, shy and somewhat picky child. Sweet with his siblings and others, sensitive to my feelings and others and shy to the point that he would rather hang out in the kitchen than go play with a friend that he hasn't seen in a while. Or sit in front of his old best friend in our old wards sacrament meeting and not say one word before or after church because he just didn't know what to say. Picky in that he has a great imagination. That alone is a fabulous quality except when it comes to shopping. IE: all clothes must be basketball related and couldn't we just call the NBA players to get them to sign the clothes? Then the birthday party - I think I need to go to a pre-planned party place but he wants to re-create the Boston Gardens in our house including party bags. The great thing is that as the second child he is very laid back so when we plan the party and no Celtics arrive and we go to the pre-planned party place he will say it was his best birthday ever. To sum I am a very lucky mother to have such a great kid.
