Dehydration

We were lucky enough to have Aunt Allie come and visit us for the weekend.  She came to see us and to help me since I was on bed rest.  I was so sick of bed rest by that point that I wanted to use Allie's visit as an excuse to have a fun weekend with my Sister in Law!  Allie was nice enough to take the kids (and Molly) on a walk while I took Kaden to 6th grade registration.  Tanner told her he would take her on a short walk to the park.  Little did Allie know that the short walk was about a mile away and almost 100 degree heat.  They were all exhausted when they came back especially Molly.  Poor Molly was suffering from heat exhaustion.  She was foaming at the mouth, not moving, breathing very rapidly and having diarrhea.  FUN!  I had to race to an OB appointment so I quickly googled some home remedies while at the Doctors and gave the kids some quick instructions over the phone.  Hoping and praying that I wouldn't have to take her to the vet and spend a fortune and that she wouldn't die.  She is such a happy little puppy that it was so weird to see her so lethargic.  Normally when we say "Sparky" her husband's name (the Romney's dog) she immediately perks up and runs to the door thinking he is coming for a visit.  This time she didn't even move.  We gave her water through a dropper and put ice packs close to her heart to cool her down and put a fan on her.  The vet said to just watch her closely.  Slowly but surely she started to come back to her playful self after a couple bouts of diarrhea - so much fun to clean up!  Then Allie was nice enough to take the kids to the beach while I stayed with Callen and Molly.  Later that night we went out to Claimjumper for dinner and Lexie was VERY excited for her Macaroni.  She kept saying her tummy hurt and I kept telling her that she was just hungry.  As soon as her macaroni came she took a couple of bites and started to freak out saying her tummy hurt so bad.  I immediately dumped a couple of water cups out and grabbed her over to my side tucking her head over the cup.  Sure enough she started to throw up.  2 down with dehydration!  Lexie didn't drink enough on the walk or the beach.  I have never had a child throw up at a restaurant before.  Luckily we were sitting back in the corner of the restaurant so we were able to leave quickly.  It did ruin the appetites for the rest of the family but Lexie and I were able to get her home and tucked in front of a movie with our other sick girl Molly.  Ever since that night she keeps telling me how much water she drinks when it is hot.  Hopefully she learned her lesson!
