In a world full of Tiger Woods, corrupt politicians and Jay Z's it is hard to find good role models for my boys. They hero worship the NBA players and I cringe as I watch them on TV with their tattoo covered bodies and watch them swearing at refs and fellow players. I don't dare tell my boys that the majority of these men are unfaithful to their wives and children. Or that a lot of them are probably on steroids and dishonest. I secretly hope that Kevin Garnett and Paul Peirce are the exception and not the rule in professional sports and that they are REALLY good guys that my boys can legitimately look up to. As I look around trying to find role models I realize that I need to stay close to home. Dad, Grandpa's, Uncles, Cousins and close friends. Yet it also hit me that I need to look a little further into the books that our family holds so dear, namely the Bible and Book of Mormon. Those books are full of the kind of heroes that I want my boys to be more like. Then I found this you tube that put those heroes into a visual format that I could show my boys and say - see that, you can be strong like Aamon or Hellman. No you don't have to have a sword (Tanner's question) but you can be strong in different ways. Then tonight when I was picking Kaden up from basketball I asked him what time his game was. He said 1pm on Saturday and we have a game on Sunday. I asked him if he told his coach that he couldn't be there because it is our church day. He said yes and I told him I was proud of him and knew that it was probably hard to do that. He said, not really. It wasn't hard at all. He said that he knows we need to keep the Sabbath day holy.
There are heroes in our treasured books and surrounding our lives. I see the proof in my boys daily - not because I really know what I am doing but because of who we are surrounded with. So to all you heroes out there; I thank you from the bottom of my heart for
raising the bar and showing my kids what real heroes look like.
I hope you enjoy the video depiction of some of our favorite heroes.

They have these great posters. At the bottem they say, "who is your hero?" Davin's is of Enos. I framed it and hung it over his bed. It has a scripture on it too.
that is awesome! Where did you get the poster?
Nice. You heard the story of Captain Moroni being painted in the gym at Poway high? We always chuckle:)
All the Mormon kids LOVED having Captain Moroni as our mascot. :)
You might have to turn the boys into Suns fans. Steve Nash is a good guy. I have my doubts about Kevin Garnett! haha but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Or you could turn them into hockey fans. We know a really nice hockey player. There's only one. Maybe two.
