It's that time again although it doesn't feel like it should be. It still feels very much like summer and I keep thinking back with nostalgia to when I started school after Labor Day. That is the way it SHOULD be. Technically starting on August 20th is just wrong since it is still summer. Having said that I didn't think the school would appreciate it if I called in every day excusing my kids because we weren't done with summer yet. Plus the kids were excited to go for the first day. Then they wanted to have summer again but that first day is always exciting/nerve wracking/scary/fun etc. This year we had a few "firsts" not firsts for me but definite firsts for them. Kaden is in 5th grade, Tanner is in 2nd and Alexis is in kindergarten. I can't believe that 4 of my 5 kids are in school. Callen is my only child not going to school. How did I get to this point? I still remember when our biggest "to do" was hitting the library and the park. Now they have backpacks, lunches, new clothes and shoes and ugh homework.
We had the best plans to be on time but as usual those plans went out the window when the reality of getting kids ready, fed, scriptures read, prayers said, lunches packed and hair done. Since we were cutting it close I took a few pictures in the car to memorize the day.
The boys were pretty fun to school shop with. Kaden in particular has his own taste. T-shirts and basketball shorts. It is pretty easy to find those - and on sale.
Tanner wants everything green - shirt, shoes and of course he keeps reminding me that our family bleeds green so we have that going for us too.
Alexis loves all things girls, princesses, flowers and pink. She didn't care what I dressed her in as long as it was girly and her hair was cute. She was so excited for kindergarten. Her kindergarten teacher was the same teacher that Tanner had and she is fabulous. To top all that off Mia is in her class - nothing would be better than that in Lexie's world.

Trav even cancelled a business trip to be here on the "BIG" day.
Lexie's classroom. Mia was sitting at her table so luckily we had no tears (from Mom or daughter) as we left her there.
How did this happen? I swear it was yesterday that Kaden was crawling and being smothered by Taylor, Tanner was in his swing at Mock 10 speed and Lexie was creating yet another mess and charming us whiled doing it. I know I will be one of the old ladies at Costco stopping every young mother and telling her to enjoy it but I can't help it. I want to stay in this place forever.
