STUCK

I have frequently heard stories of running out of gas, or seen cars on the side of the road that ran out and thought to myself how that would never happen to me. I mean it's really not THAT hard to keep a little bit of gas in your car right? Well, with the pace that our life is at it seems that it is hard to stay on top of everything all the time. This day was particularly crazy.....do I sound like a broken record? It seems like I say that all the time but seriously this was a REALLY crazy day as opposed to just a crazy day. We had basketball games, a baptism, and a piano recital all in the matter of a few hours. You can read all about the fun filled piano recital on another post. Needless to say we were racing to the piano recital and I told the kids help me to remember that we need to get gas before we go home. Then we went to the recital and in the relief of finally being able to breathe and relax for the first time that day, I completely forgot to get gas. I got on the free-way and into the carpool lane when the car started to act weird. It took me a split second to realize that I was on the carpool lane, no shoulder with 3 of my kids and I was out of gas. I pulled over as far as I could and threw on my emergency lights and called Trav in a panic. That was a humbling call! I am always getting after Trav for pushing it to the limit when it comes to running on empty in his car. He took it all in stride and only got a couple of "are you kidding me's" and "what were you thinking's" in there. He called AAA and we were told to sit tight. The problem was we didn't know where on the freeway we were. We were kind of in between signs or landmarks. We sat in the car as the other cars zoomed by without air or any sort of entertainment. As you can see, the kids found all sorts of ways to entertain each other. When AAA finally got there we wondered how he was going to put the gas in the car. We felt so sorry for the AAA guy. He had to jump to the side of the car in -between cars zooming by to put gas in our car. We said a few prayers for him and luckily he was quite the expert. We luckily had barely enough to get off the carpool lane and to the nearest gas station. It was a very big learning experience and a great bonding moment although I would prefer to bond with the kids in a safer place where cars aren't
zooming right past us at 80 mph.
