YES ON 8! WE DID IT!

It was a long night sitting by the TV and then the computer trying to figure out if we won.  It was also a long day.  It started with sign holding at the polling place from 7-9am in the rain.  We really felt like warriors.  Then later in the afternoon I chopped up enough fruit salad to take to the people in the area that were doing phone calls.  I tried to coordinate with my kids so they could fend for themselves for a little while until Trav got off work.  Translation, bribery, more bribery and frozen pizza.  Then I went to make phone calls from 4-8.  We got poling lists and called everyone that said they were going to vote yes and kindly reminded them to vote.  I even offered one person a ride and my cousin went knocking on doors at 7:00 at night to try to get the vote out.  After the polls closed I tried hard not to pace as I tried to get all the kids in bed.  I finally found a website that was being updated county by county.  I kept hitting the refresh button until I realized that it automatically refreshed every few minutes.  :)  I finally went to bed at midnight but got up at 3:30 to see where we were.  At that point we were still 6 points ahead so I could sleep.  As of right now with 99.7 percent of the vote in we are ahead 52.5 percent to 47.5 percent.  5 points!  I can't even begin to explain what an amazing experience this has been.  I am tremendously impressed by people all around me in our church and in other churches.  The time, dedication and effort to get this passed is astounding to me.  We have been so blessed to be surrounded by examples of people that put this great quest first and themselves second.  It has also restored my faith in the idea that every vote counts and that we really can make a difference.  We said a family prayer this morning and truly thanked Heavenly Father for his hand in all of this.  It has made us stronger and more brave to stand for truth.  I am truly proud to be a Latter Day Saint, a resident of San Diego and a citizen of the United States of America.  AN AMAZING VICTORY!
Here we are at the Poway Rally.  We lined both sides of the street for a mile.  We had over 600 people there in support wearing yellow, holding signs and honking.  It was powerful to see the support.  We even made 2 new friends (see below) from the beauty college.  They came out and helped us for a while.

Here is our youtube debut.  You can see us at minute 3:50.  I had just left to go get the car to take Natalie and Taylor to soccer and pick up the boys from their games but you can see Trav, my mom, my dad, Taylor and Natalie.

Rachel,

Congratulations on a fight well fought!!!!!!!!!! Even though it passed, unfortunately the battle is not over. I can not believe the emotions here in AZ over Prop 102's passing. So many people are VERY heated about it. (As some have spray painted the word HATE on yes 102 signs). Some are now even more upset at all of the Prop 102 supporters and think even more so that we are haters and intolerant (Hey, who's doing the spray painting?). I don't imagine that this will ever get any easier...until the next vote...enjoy the victory! Congrats again!!!!!!!!

You guys are such a cool family! My parents did the street sign thing..but getting the whole family in on it with matching shirts...now only the Davies/Tollestrup families could be that enthusiastic!!

LOVE IT! I am getting a little sick of the whole "intolerant" thing, though. I just wrote on facebook....I'm sick of the fact that anyone who doesn't have liberal views is considered to be intolerant. What's that all about? Only liberals can have opinions? Grrr.
