On the road again....our first 12 hour road trip since Callen was born and about 30 minutes into it I thought about turning back. I should have realized before we left that he was too big for his baby car seat and totally bored facing backwards when everyone else was facing forwards. He's 25 pounds already and he is totally ready to face forward like all the big kids. He did not want to be in his car seat so at every stop we got him out and played with him a bit. He LOVES driving the car as you can see! Our saving grace was a portable DVD player that played Baby Einstein. The big kids could watch their movies on the other TVs and Callen was as happy as could be. I didn't even worry that his brain was turning to mush as his eyes glazed over because he was quiet and I was happy! We ended up driving all night and luckily the kids slept and Trav and I listened to my iphone and shared my headphones. It was so romantic! Luckily we made it safe and sound and as I was griping a bit about the long trip/lack of sleep the next morning my grandpa wisely said - at least you weren't pulling a handcart! All I can say is perspective. I barely made it with 4 TVs, a portable DVD player that plays specific music designed to lull babies into a comatose state, caffeine, ipod, pillows, air conditioning, etc. It makes me more fully appreciate the finer comforts of life - meaning DVDs and a running car! Now my 12 hour trip seems like a breeze!

It seems like the trip wa a success...where did you go? I have yet to do a trip longer than 5 hours in the car with my kids. Thank goodness for DVD's and all the entertainment for kids...how did our parents do it without those things?
