PINE WOOD DERBY

I can't believe it! We are now official parents. That may sound weird, but there are all these mini milestones as a parent that make me feel like I have arrived - now I am truly a parent. Ex: the first primary program, back to school night, first sporting event, first baptism, first day of school, first love note (that was fun), first report card, first wet bed, first broken bone, first snotty kiss that doesn't gross you out just almost makes you cry with joy. Just a few of the firsts where I sit back and think I am really a mother. All those years of dreaming of it and now it's here and flying by like sands through my fingers. As much as I try and stop time it's just not working. Enough of the sentimental nostalgia, back to the pine wood derby! It was a blast. Kaden and Trav worked on the car and Kaden was bursting with pride on his car. It looked pretty fab compared to a lot of the other boys block cars. Just a little disclaimer, Travis did NOT sand and saw this car into it's perfect aero-dynamic shape. He is a "modern dad" who ran out to Michael's and grabbed the pre-made car that just needed a little sand, paint, decals and wheels. Even though the short-cuts were made, it was truly a father-son bonding moment. They got it all spiffed up making sure it looked perfect and Kaden could hardly wait to go and race his car. Lessons learned - just because it's the prettiest doesn't mean it is the fastest! As I hoped that he would win ONE race the whole night, he pulled off 2 wins. One due to default because the other car kept jumping the track but hey we will count it! He did win the coolest design award so we didn't walk away empty handed. All in all it was a fabulous night! Thank you Boy Scouts of America for helping us mold our boys into men (just not too fast!)
